Types of Scooter Batteries

Each mobility scooter requires a specific level of power to run. The specific type of electric scooter battery replacement doesn't matter as long as the output is the same. For instance, if the machine requires a 36v scooter battery, it must be replaced with one of the same power output. It cannot use a larger 48v scooter battery or a smaller 12v scooter battery.

Sealed Lead Acid Batteries

Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries are the traditional box battery. They are larger and typically more cost-effective but will need to be replaced more often, especially if the scooter sees frequent use.

Lithium-Ion Batteries

A Lithium Ion electric scooter battery has a much smaller footprint, high energy density, and excellent longevity.1 While they are typically more expensive than an SLA battery they last much longer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long do replacement batteries last?
The battery life is typically between 300 to 500 charge cycles before it begins losing potency.2 Please note that the battery will still charge and discharge, but the use time relative to charging time will be diminished.

How long does a charge last?
This ultimately depends on the battery itself, especially if it is not fully charged.

How do I know if my scooter needs a new battery?
There are several indicators:

  • If the scooter doesn't travel as fast or as far as it used to
  • If the machine stops or cuts out randomly
  • If the battery light drops faster or appears to not charge fully.

Can I use a lithium-ion battery instead of an SLA battery in my scooter?
Typically, yes, battery types are interchangeable. We recommend checking with the manufacturer

Can I use a battery with a higher or lower voltage than the original?
No.
