Description
The SmartSite Gravity Set is best used when dependency on pump machines is not available. The gravity set grants you the ability to allow a drip-rate to administer the flow of solution or any other medical solution you connect to the iv line. The drip-rate is something you should already know about before purchasing a gravity set. For home units, pump machines can get pricey and people opt-out for a cheaper method such as the gravity set; another instance would be in the case of emergencies, gravity sets require no power and are often used by medical facilities as backup options in times of loss of electricity.
The Becton Dickinson 42133e Smartsite Gravity Infusion Set has 2 ports integrated into the iv line, this is used for attaching the second line into the same patient iv incision such as the BD Nexiva Closed IV System. The 2 ports offer the caretaker the option of attaching two solutions at the same time, this is used in situations where medicine needs to be administered in large quantities, both lines can be opened at the same time or one closed while the other finishes up. For solutions that need to be administered at separate times, you can attach the solutions to both ports and close the one not currently needing to be administered, the provided roller clamp stops any flow of solutions; preventing any unwanted medicine from being administered until it is time to do so.
The Smartsite Gravity Infusion set has needleless valves that are able to connect a needleless syringe to the line in order to administer solution or to flush out content. The SmartSite valve has an opening that is universal to a standard syringe and can be placed on either port.
With a priming volume of 17-milliliters of the BD SmartSite Gravity Set, you must properly set your iv line for the time or dosage required to administer, if measurements or time is wrong, there are risks of administrating the incorrect dosage to the patient.
