With/Without Stylet: Stylets are small, thin wires that run through the tube in order to remove debris such as gooped up food and other interferences. Depending on your needs, there are tubes both with and without Stylet . Both are a versatile piece of equipment you can use for feedings and medicinal usage.

Adult and Pediatric Tubes: NG Tubes are available for adults and children, assuring there isn't a "one-size fits all" due to the patient's age and size. Covidien's Pediatric Nasogastric Feeding Tubes are shorter in length -approximately 36 inches at most- and has minimal clogging to make the experience easier for the user. Other NG Tubes can be as long as 42 inches, depending on the needs of the patient themselves.

Contraindictions: There are several cases where an NG tube is not applicable. These include severe trauma to the nasal area of the face, such as patients who recently had surgery on, in or around the nasal area. Not-so-severe but still avoidable usages are blood coagulation, restrictions in the esophagus or recent cauterization in the esophageal area. In these cases, it's best to consult with a medical professional for the best advice if needed.

There are more options to consider when making the decision to need or use an NG Tube, such as weighted or non-weighted tubing or rubber and non-rubber types. Whatever the choice, there is an option available that will work for either yourself or another.
