Standard square and rectangular options work for many general wound sites, while contoured designs are available for areas such as the sacrum and heel. Bordered silicone dressings provide built-in adhesion, while some non-bordered options may require a secondary fixation method.

Foam silicone dressings may be used for wounds with varying levels of exudate, depending on the individual product. Options include thinner foam dressings for lower drainage levels and more absorbent designs for moderate to heavier exudate. Some products also contain antimicrobial ingredients, such as silver, when that feature is appropriate for the wound care plan.
