Bivona Tracheostomy Tubes
Portex Bivona Tracheostomy Tubes are manufactured by Smiths Medical. Unlike other tubes, the Bivona Tracheostomy Tubes are made of soft and flexible silicone materials, enhancing patient mobility and comfort with less irritation to the throat. They are all packaged individually and sterile, and they have a clip-in obturator, twill trach tie, and cap plug. The tube is shaped in an arc and has a single or dual inner cannula. The Bivona Trach inner cannula is replaceable and compatible with both the Bivona TTS Water Cuff and the Bivona Aire Cuff. The inner cannula can be removed and cleaned without the need to entirely decannulate the patient.

Types of Trachs
A tracheostomy tube maintains a patient's airway for them, delivering oxygen to the lungs when breathing normally is not an option. Throat blockage can occur due to swelling, a tumor, injury, weak muscles, and more. A tracheostomy tube provides alternative airway management.
Cuffed vs. Uncuffed
Uncuffed tubes are for patients who are able to protect their own airways and manage their own secretions.
When inflated, cuffed tubes create a seal between the tube and the trachea. The cuff protects against aspiration. Cuffs are inflated with air or water, depending on the type of cuff. The Bivona Trach Water Cuff on products such as the Bivona Adult TTS Tracheostomy Tubes use sterile water, while Bivona Aire cuffs use air. Bivona Foam cuff tubes passively inflate once they are placed and put the least amount of pressure on the trachea.
Tube Shafts
The tube shaft is the portion of a tracheostomy tube that dwells in the throat. Bivona FlexTend Trachs have a flexible and kink-resistant shaft that helps improve access to patients in a prone position. The flexibility of the shaft helps enhance patient mobility and comfort.
Bivona Trach Sizes
Bivona Trach Tubes come in neonatal, pediatric, and adult sizes. Other size factors include tube length and the internal and external diameter. The size is determined by a medical professional to minimize trauma to the tracheal wall. All sizing information is etched on the tube's flange, or neck plate.
Internal Diameter: The I.D. is the interior diameter, which also determines the inner cannula size.
Outside Diameter: The O.D refers to the external diameter of the tube.
Length: This is the length of the shaft.
