Coflex Unna Boots were invented by Paul Gerson Unna, a German dermatologist in the late 1800s. He found that ulcers of the leg and varicose veins healed much more successfully when kept moist with a zinc oxide-based paste. The paste was lathered on the skin, covered with a bandage, and the paste was then applied over the bandage. In modern versions of the Unna Boot, the zinc oxide and calamine combination is impregnated into the gauze or bandage. The zinc acts as an anti-infection agent, while the calamine soothes irritated skin. The bandages can be easily removed and changed for patients who are non-compliant or who need a more regular bandage change. This compression therapy is available in a number of styles through Vitality Medical. Our Gelocast Unna's Boot Dressing by BSN-Jobst can be purchased by the single roll or per case of 12 bandages. The bandages come in three-inch by 12-yard or four-inch by 12-yard sizes. All gauze is non-raveling. Our Primer Modified Unna Boot Dressing by Western Medical is available in two widths, and can be purchased with or without the calamine. As with our other medical supplies, if you receive an order that is not needed, return the unopened, unused portion for a refund or credit to your account. We offer discounts on most of our products with a purchase over $100.
