Choices in Wound Care
Absorbers: Super-absorbent dressings in a variety of types including Iodine gel, Sodium Chloride impregnated, and clear acrylic.
Accessories - Wound Care: Includes elastic skin closures, protective barriers, skin prep, and disposable measuring guides.
Ace Bandages: Ace Bandages for wrapping strains and various injuries that need support and compression provided by elastic and stretch bandages.
Adhesives & Removers: Gentle, safe removers and wipes with pleasant fragrances from Hollister, Bard, and Smith & Nephew.
Bandages: Plaster of paris and cotton/poly stretch bandages as well as Montgomery straps.
Adhesive Strips-Bandaids: Sterile, flexible bandages in a variety of shape and sizes including eye patches and knuckle bandages.
Calcium Alginate Dressings: Calcium Alginate dressings are derived from seaweed and avilable as sheets or ropes for packing deep wounds. They absorb moderate to heavy wound drainage and are capable of absorbing many times their own weight. Once applied they form a moist, gel-like covering and always require a cover dressing. Not recommended for lightly draining wounds.
Charcoal Dressings: Charcoal Dressings have an activated charcoal layer that absorbs wound odor. Also used for wounds that may not heal, such as cancerous lesions. May require a cover dressing or tape to hold in place.
Cleansers & Debriders: Wound Cleansers/Debriders gently cleanse a wound before dressing application. They may contain ingredients that absorb drainage and/or deodorize the wound. Cleansers/debriders are used to remove dead tissue while keeping healthy tissue intact.
Collagen Dressings: Collagen dressings are used for moderate to heavily draining wounds to enhance healing and tissue repair. Collagen dressings can be used on burns, pressure ulcers, scrapes, cuts and dermatologic conditions.
Composite Dressings: Dressings with three layers. Absorbs drainage and prevents bacteria from entering the wound.
Compression Dressings: Compression dressings and Unna boots apply controlled pressure to areas of the body to help control swelling and promote circulation, encouraging wound healing.
Dressing Trays: Includes scapel, forceps, straight iris scissors, gauze sponge, towel, and gloves.
First Aid Kits: Different types of first aid kits for camping, traveling, disaster or emergencies.
Foam Dressings: Foam dressings are highly absorbent and generally made from hydrophilic polyurethane foam, offering a moist environment to insulate and cushion the wound. They require a cover dressing and tape, unless they are waterproof with an adhesive border. Comfortable and gentle, they will not stick to wounds or leave residue when removed. Can be used for heavily draining wounds.
Gauze Packing Strips: Cotton gauze and wound filler from Ferris, Invacare, and Kendall.
Gauze Pads: Absorbent sponges, adhesive dressings, and ABD pads.
Gauze Rolls: Conforms to body contours and resists bacterial infection.
Gauze Sponges: Soft sponges in a variety of plys and sizes.
Gauze Tubular: Tubular bandages for arms, legs, and feet. Includes joint support and stockinette dressings.
Hydrocolloid Dressings: Hydrocolloid Dressings are soft, absorptive, adhesive wafers that become gel-like as they absorb and are best used on lightly to moderately draining wounds. They are waterproof and impermeable to bacteria and contaminates. Easy application. Various thicknesses available. Not recommended for infected wounds.
Hydrogels: Hydrogels are transparent and water-based. They hydrate tissue and facilitate debridement using the body's own enzymes. Because of the relatively high water content, there is limited drainage and/or absorption. Some sheets and all gels need a cover dressing and tape to hold them in place and are easy to use. They require no mixing. Not recommended for moderate or heavily draining wounds because of limited absorptive ability.
Nonadherent Dressings: Nonadherent dressings are available nonimpregnated or impregnated and discourage foreign matter from becoming lodged in the wound bed. They can be used on skin tears, donor sites and skin grafts. Most nonadherent dressings require a cover bandage or tape to hold them in place.
Preps-Disinfectants: Kills bacteria and removes harmful debris. Includes Alcohol, Povidone Iodine, and Hydrogen Peroxide types.
Silicone Gel Sheeting: Silicone Gel Sheeting is designed for temporary use in the management of both existing and new hypertrophic scars and keloids.
Silver Dressings:
Tapes & Adhesives: Several different kind of tape including sports, hypoallergenic, silk, and paper tape.
Transparent Dressings: Transparent Adhesive Dressings maintain a moist environment that is permeable to oxygen and vapor and impermeable to bacteria and contaminants. Because they are waterproof they may be used on blisters, superficial wounds or wounds with light amounts of drainage. They can also securely protect IV catheter sites. They allow evaluation of wound progress without removal of dressing. Application may be difficult for those with dexterity problems.
Unna Boots: Unna Boots are a compression bandages that are embedded with zinc oxide, which helps relieve skin irritation and keep the wound area moist. As the Unna Boot dries, it forms a semi-rigid cast, providing support.
