Description

What is the Molnlycke Z-Flex Heel Boot?

The Molnlycke Z-Flex Heel Boot is a protective boot designed to prevent pressure and pressure sores on the heel and Achilles area. These boots come with three adjustable shin straps and two adjustable ankle straps and will fit most users. The adjustable ankle straps support the foot and ensure it is held in a natural and anatomically correct position. In addition, the Z-Flex boot has a pressure ulcer viewing door build into the bottom of the boot. This door can easily be opened to assess the condition of existing pressure sores without the pain and stress of taking the entire boot off. In addition to these benefits, Z-Flex heel protection boots are made out of a temperature regulating material to enhance patient comfort.

How the Molnlycke Z-Flex Heel Boot Works

This Z-Flex boot features a low-pressure air chamber and a fluidized positioner. The fluidized positioner conforms to the Achilles area to protect and support the Achilles tendon while the air chamber evenly redistributes weight throughout the lower leg and foot. These factors contribute to both natural body alignment and the user's comfort, so it eliminates the need for knee Wedges and Pillows. As recommended by international guidelines, the Z-Flex fluidized boot lifts the heel completely off of the contact surface.

Pressure Ulcer Effects

How to Use the Z-Flex Boot

  • Step 1: Unstrap all of the bootstraps.
  • Step 2: Center the heel over the heel opening as you place the leg and foot into the boot.
  • Step 3: Strap the elastic shin straps around the leg, either bottom to top or top to bottom. Ensure that the straps are not too tight.
  • Step 4: Attach the ankle straps on each side. Never cross the ankle straps.
  • Step 5: Ensure that the foot is in an anatomically neutral position and that the pressure ulcer viewing door is closed.
  • Step 6: To check on pressure ulcer sores, undo the ankle straps and open the pressure ulcer viewing door at the bottom of the boot. Close the door and straps back up when the task is complete.

To use in conjunction with a Sequential Compression Device:

  • Ensure that lines or tubes are not passing through the boot's top or its heel opening.
  • Exit the lines or tubes through the ankle strap and top shin strap if possible.
  • If exiting the lines or tubes through the ankle strap and top shin strap is an impossibility, exit the lines or tubes through the top and middle shin straps or the middle and bottom shin straps.
  • Lines and tubes should never come in contact with the user's skin.
