Urine Collection Bag Design Options

There are three types of drainage bags for urine collection. The type of urine bag selected is dependant on the patient's needs and if they are ambulatory. The bedside urinary drain bag is for daytime and nighttime urine collection of nonambulatory patients in either a hospital or home care setting. There are two solutions for urinary collection when the user is on-the-go. Catheterized individuals can be mobile by securing a urine bag to the waist or leg, based on what is most comfortable to them. No matter what type is used, Vitality Medical has every available urinary drainage bag option to keep inventory well-stocked in hospitals or home care. It is recommended to change the urine bag at a minimum every seven days.

Bedside Drainage Bags

This style is ideal for nonambulatory catheterized patients who need the urine channeled while they are in bed, day and night. A hook hangs the bag at the foot of the bed below the catheter to allow gravity to channel the urine and make it more comfortable for the patient. With day and nighttime urine collection, these bedside drainage bags have larger volume options with graduated markings to measure output, and a sampling port to allow needle-free access to test urine.

Examples:

  • Bard Infection Control Urinary Drainage Bag features a bacteriostatic bag to minimize the risk of a urinary tract infection. The large 2000mL volume capacity is designed with a urine sampling port and anti-reflux valve.
  • Urinary Night-Time Bottle is a reusable urine collection container that is compatible with a foley or male external catheter with additional capability of connecting to a urostomy or ileostomy.

Belly Urine Collection Bag

Having a urine collection bag secured at the waist provides an alternative method over a leg bag. Some individuals have experienced leg bruising or irritation and may want to opt for a urine bag that is worn at the waist.

Urinary Leg Bag

A urine leg bag makes for discreet urine collection for ambulatory patients who are catheterized due to bladder incontinence. A drainage leg bag with straps secures to the leg and offers a low profile to be discreet underneath loose-fitting jeans.

Examples:

  • Microtek Deluxe-Style Leg Bag has woven straps to keep the leg bag in place while moving. The twist drain makes draining the bag easy and comfortable.
  • Hollister Leg Bag keeps a low profile with a vent to prevent air build-up so that it remains discreet underneath clothing. The vinyl film is soft and comfortable against the skin.
