CPM Machines (Continuous Passive Motion Therapy)
CPM Machines are used for continuous passive motion joint therapy for the knee, hand, leg, arm, elbow or back. A CPM Device is used to restore the range of motion for a joint. Most often Continuous Passive Motion Machines are used during the first phase of joint rehabilitation following a surgical procedure or trauma. A continuous motion machine moves the effected joint through a controlled range of motion. As progress is made for the joint, the
...A Continuous Passive Movement Machine is often used following knee replacement, ACL reconstruction or knee arthroplasty. Originally developed by Dr. Robert B, Salter, CPM Joint Therapy offers assistance with physical therapy of an injured joint. CPM Therapy reduces swelling and stretches tissue. CPM Joint Therapy also helps to prevent joint stiffness, pain, and scarring. A study published in the Journal of Arthroplasty compared the difference between CPM Therapy and professional physical therapist found no significant difference in results but did find a significant difference in cost. CPM Knee Therapy was much less expensive.
