STD & STI Testing Kits
Why Test?
Some diseases, such as gonorrhea and HIV, can present without symptoms until later stages of the disease. Without symptoms indicating that something is wrong, the infection goes untreated. Individuals who are not treated can pass the infection on to their sexual partners. In addition, untreated infections can create severe health problems that can last a lifetime.1 The only way to prevent complications due to undiagnosed and untreated STDs is with regular testing. The faster the infection is discovered, the faster it can be treated.
When To Get Tested
All sexually active people need to be tested on a regular basis. It is recommended that anyone who is sexually active gets tested annually. The CDC also recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 43 be tested for HIV at least once in their lifetime.2 In addition, anyone who is pregnant should be tested for syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis. If an STD is present, it may pass to the newborn and result in complications or death.3
What Kind of Test To Get
With so many different kinds of over-the-counter STD tests, it can be difficult to determine which one is best for the job. Ultimately, choosing the correct test depends on how extensive users want their tests to be or what symptoms are present, if any. The MyLAB Safe Box STD Test offers basic screening for the five highest-risk STIs: Chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, HIV I, and HIV II. The MyLAB Box Uber Box 8-Panel STD Pack takes it a step further by screening for these top five with the additional STIs of herpes simplex II, syphilis, and hepatitis C.
