Hippocampe All-Terrain Wheelchair has one front wheel and two rear wheels that give the user autonomy to push themselves. If desired, the chair is also able to be pushed using the large bar behind the chair and also can be towed, increasing the options for the user. The Hippocampe Wheelchair lightweight frame is made of aluminum that has been treated with saltwater while the axles are made of stainless steel. For comfort, the frame has been covered by cladding to reduce the risk of burns either from heat or cold. The Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair is comfortable and has several optional accessories to customize and personalize the chair.

There are three different options for wheels on the Hippocampe Beach Wheelchair. The chair comes with a set of all-terrain wheels that do best on mountain trails. They are not as effective on the beach sand, so there are also balloon wheels that keep the chair from sinking into the sand. Beach Wheelchair

Ski Chair

Just add the ski accessories for wintertime sport. Two rear skis attach to the frame and a front ski slides over the front wheel to convert your Hippocampe from a wheeled chair to a ski chair. The standard push bar allows a caregiver to push the ski-conversion along a snowy trail or over your snow-covered sidewalk.

 

 

Transportable

The Hippocampe is lightweight at less than 38 pounds. It folds, has a removable push bar, and removable wheels for easy storage and transport. It takes less than a minute to prep for transport. Adjustability

The Hippocampe Wheelchair has many adjustable components in order to fully customize the comfort and functionality of the chair for each individual user. Many of the extras are adjustable to make them worth the additional cost. For example, the armrests are able to adjust in height and have the ability to swivel to make it easier to get in and out of the wheelchair as needed. The harness is also adjustable to accommodate different shapes and sizes of various users.

The headrest has multiple adjustments for increased comfort. It adjusts not only to the height of the user but also forward and backward as well as side to side. Lastly, the frame itself has the option for a fixed or adjustable backrest. With all of the variations in each of the extras, users are sure to be comfortable, supported, and ready to go!

Before the First Ride

There is some assembly required with this product. Make sure the directions are followed closely and that all pieces are tightly and securely connected. Remember that there is an adjustment period to get used to the new dimensions and balance of the wheelchair. When you go into the water, know that the front wheel is more buoyant. Be sure to counterbalance the weight by leaning forward as you enter the water.

Beach Wheelchair Warnings and Precautions

• Ensure wheels are locked correctly and straps and buckles are fastened appropriately.
• When being pushed, user must sit with back fully against backrest.
• When entering the water, do not go in deeper than the height of the seat. Chair does not float.
• Always wear a lifejacket.
• Front wheel is buoyant; lean forward to counter-balance the shift in weight.
• Have a capable adult nearby when entering the water and when swimming.
• Be cautious and aware of the tide, shore breaks, and currents.
• Use extreme caution when not equipped with brakes.
• Not for use with a flat or punctured wheel.
• Only one person in chair at a time.
• Do not stand on seat or footrest.
• Avoid any modification to the structure.
• Do not go underneath obstacles.
• Not for steep surfaces with more than a 15% grade.
• Hand-braking on steep surfaces may cause burns or other injuries.
• Avoid obstacles that are more than four inches.
• If using a harness, always be accompanied by a capable adult.
