The Eakin Fistula and Wound Pouch, by ConvaTec is a device designed for a number of different sized wounds that need a controlled, sealed drainage option. The plethora of dimensional options will help one fit a pouch for either a wound or fistula opening so a proper healing situation is maintained.
The Eakin drainage pouch is designed to accurately fit any number of different wound shapes. Even highly irregular wounds can be contained by the eakin system using the items contained within. The transparency that the wound kit provides allows one to first outline the wound by tracing the borders. With the borders traced, the user or caregiver can cut out the opening with scissors. With the cut-out, it is then basically a stencil that can be used to outline the wound shape to the cohesive backing.
With the outline of the wound cut out from backing, the backing can be placed perfectly over the wound, flush against the borders. It takes about 30 seconds worth of working the cohesive material against the skin and will adhere when activated by the warmth of kneading the material against the skin. Make sure that there is adequate amount of skin adhesive and Eakin Cohesive Seal around the wound to provide a proper seal. With the drainage back over the wound, the exudate and drainage can flow into the bag.
The exudate can be drained through either a fold and tuck outlet or a remote tap closure. The drainage pouches come either for vertical or horizontal wound openings and come either 5 to 10 per box.
