First, it serves as an elevated toilet seat. With my arthritis it is hard to sit down on the toilet and even harder to get up. The elevation this transfer bench provides over the toilet is just what I needed to make the transition from standing up to sitting down and back again so much easier. For a time there, I hated to have to go to the bathroom because of the difficulty with a toilet that sits so low. Buying an elevated toilet seat is not cheap...
Second, this sliding transfer bench serves as a bath chair for me. Since it is so hard to bend over to wash my feet and lower legs, this transfer bench allows me to sit and reach all of the parts I need to get to. It is also much steadier to sit and shower off with the flexi-shower hose than to try to stand for the showering process.
Third, this sliding transfer bench serves as a transfer bench! My arthritis makes it difficult to get over the rise of the tub. What use to be effortless for me a few years ago is now a huge challenge. With this sliding transfer bench, I can easily sit down on the seat and slide the chair along the rails to the tub. A leg rest might make this a bit easier, but it seems that no one currently makes a sliding transfer bench with leg rests. The cut-out for the toilet is also very useful in the tub to access my bottom for cleaning that is normally inaccessible with a standard bath chair. When I am done bathing, I simply slide back to the toilet and stand to get dry and clothed.
