CARESITE Positive Displacement Needleless Connector with Extension Set

Overview

The B. Braun CARESITE Positive Displacement Needleless Connector is used to connect different IV lines to the same connection without having to remove the needle from the patient and create a new incision. There are many types of extension sets to facilitate the connection of new lines -- even adaptable connections rated for low or high pressure.

The CARESITE Small Bore Extension Sets for High Pressure (470100) or Bonded Bifurcated (470106) are special in their way. Depending on the extension set needed, the user may need to adjust the flow of pump systems to measure for the capacity of the extension set. Once the right option is identified, disinfecting the connecting ports should still be done, even if the set is provided sterile -- it does not hurt to be extra careful. The connection port can be cleaned with a wipe, such as the WEBCOL Alcohol Prep Pads Wipe, to remove possible bacteria that may have made its way into the set.

The clear design of the connector allows for easy viewing of fluids running through. Depending on the density of medications, some may get clogged at first. Priming is also a factor to take into account when connecting the IV lines. Preparing the set includes taking into consideration the different priming volumes and whether infusion is through drip-rate or pump. A spinlock is on every set for stopping or slowing the flow.

The Bonded Bifurcated infusion set has two ports. The feature allows connection for two medications, such as when the medications need to be separate until ready to blend.
