What are Instant Cold Packs Used for?

Unlike heat packs, which are ideal for loosening tight muscles by improving circulation, cold causes blood vessels to constrict, which reduces swelling and helps numb pain.

When Should You Use an Ice Pack?

This type of treatment should be used within the first 48 hours of injury. Immediate treatment will reduce the effects of the injury, such as swelling. Cold pack therapy should not be used for more than 20 minutes at a time.

What is the Difference Between Hot and Cold Therapy?

  • Cold Therapy - decreases blood flow and reduces inflammation
  • Heat Therapy - increases and promotes blood flow to allow muscles to relax

What is Ice Useful for?

  • Strains
  • Joint Injury
  • Osteoarthritis
