Description

Details

Kangaroo Joey Pump is a compact, easy to use, option for your enteral feeding needs. The ease of use for this feeding pump comes from the interface that is similar to an ATM. This interface guides the user through the programming of the pump based on what pump-set is loaded into the device. The pump-set is identified using Magnetic Intelligent Set Type Identification Connector or MISTIC. Once the pump-set is identified, the Kangaroo Joey feeding pump will ask questions for that specific set.

In addition, this Kangaroo pump has a memory bank for your custom programming. This allows you to easily resume a previous feeding. The best part is that it can store your programs indefinitely! Also, the memory can store up to 72 hours of history.

The user can use this history to check the infusion rate of formula over any 3 day period.

There are even more features for this feeding pump. A rubber overmold gives the pump shock resistance and added durability. Noise is reduced as well, with the rubber overmold. Another great feature is its high IPX, or waterproof, score which makes cleaning easier because it can get a little wet. In addition to the safety and convenience features, you can lock the settings to prevent any tampering, purposeful and accidental, ensuring the correct amount of formula is pumped.

Vitality Medical also carries a wide range of accessories for the Joey Pump, including backpacks and pole clamps.

Instructional Video: How to Set Up Your Device (1:28 minutes)

Video Transcription

The first step of basic pump operation is to prepare and load your feeding set. To prepare your set, simply fill the bag or spike per your standard procedure. In order to achieve proper accuracy, the initial fluid line in the feeding set container must be six inches above to top of the pump. Once your feeding set is ready, press the power button on the lower right of the front panel to power up the pump. You have the option to either keep your previous settings or clear settings. The “Keep Settings” option will allow you to keep your previously programmed settings. The “Clear Settings” option will clear your previous settings and the volume feed from the previous feeding. Next, open the blue door to the feeding set loading area. Grasp the thumb tab on your set and insert the tab directly into the left pocket of the loading set area. Press down firmly on the thumb tab and align with the white line to ensure it is seated. Grasp the black ring retainer and gently wrap the tubing counter-clockwise around the rotor. Carefully pull the black retainer end upward to position it over the slot on the right, and then lower the retainer into the slot. Use caution not to overstretch the tubing. Close the blue door to the feeding set loading area.

DESIGN AND SETUP
WHILE THE pump is easy to set up and use over the last 19 years of using feeding pumps overall this pump has given the most problems. The wheel cogs being on top of the set causes great problem and many service call due to pump not pulling food from bag giving a feed line error continuously. If and when a problem occurs the food bag line will pop. the spillage even though cleaned up will then continually cause feed line errors as the food will no longer be pulled correctly. Servicing is then needed and DME company has to deliver a back up until the machine is repaired. In the last 5 years alone we have had 3 new machines of this type and brand. In the last 3 months our one pump has had to have service calls 4 times. I am looking to replace this brand of pump, I would not recommend for someone who relies solely on pump feeding.

Kangaroo Joey
Rather than rent at $144.55 a month you can own one for $588. However, nowhere in the description does it state the pole bracket (clamp) comes with it.
So no need to purchase one as I did, wind up sending it back with a 20% restocking fee and return shipping. So word of warning, the clamp does come with it.

Kangaroo Joey Enteral Feeding Pump Review
I really want to thank the inventor of this device. It literally saved my life. My dad cannot feed himself so he always need somebody to feed him and it had been me. But with this I can both feed him and have some time for myself. You might think it's a bit expensive but it is definitely worth it.
