Welch Allyn Tycos Aneroid Sphygmomanometer Overview
Tycos Aneroid Sphygmomanometers by Welch Allyn come from a line of the highest-quality blood pressure measuring instruments in the world. Since developing one of the first aneroid sphygmomanometers in 1907, they have been innovating and improving the reliability and accuracy of their instruments. With their gear-free DuraShock technology, Welch Allyn Tycos Aneroid Sphygmomanometers are light, compact, and shock-resistant. They are able to withstand falls up to 30 inches without falling out of calibration and are certified accurate to +/- 3 mmHg. When in use, the integrated gauge can be rotated 360° for easy viewing and ensured accuracy. Tycos Aneroid Sphygmomanometers are latex-free and are easy to clean and disinfect.

Aneroid vs. Mercury Sphygmomanometers
Mercury sphygmomanometers consist of an inflatable bladder and a column of mercury. Different pressures in the bladder cause different levels of mercury in the column, allowing a method to measure blood pressure. Mercury sphygmomanometers had been the gold standard for blood pressure measurement, but because of the safety and environmental impact of mercury, aneroid sphygmomanometers have replaced them. In addition to safety concerns, mercury sphygmomanometers must be kept in place so the mercury stays level — moving it affects the device’s accuracy. Aneroid sphygmomanometers are far more lightweight and mobile, making them more versatile. Studies have shown that there isn’t a material difference in the accuracy of mercury and aneroid sphygmomanometers.
