TruTone Plus Electrolarynx Artificial Larynx is a handheld electronic device that helps patients with speech difficulties after a laryngectomy, also known as voice box removal surgery performed as part of larynx or throat cancer treatment. This artificial larynx produces a mechanical sound so the user can speak and be better understood when engaging in conversation. This speech aid is adjustable to achieve the best overall vocal tone, quality, and sound as the person speaks through the device. The adjustable cap also sharpens the sound. An increased vocal range lets others hear the person using the device.

• Only use approved NiCAD or NiMH 9 volt style batteries. Do not charge with Alkaline or other non-rechargeable batters. This will void the warranty and may cause extreme heat or egnite a fire.
• Use the device until the volume begins to fade, indicating the batteries have drained 80%.
• Permanently removing the dust cover will void the warranty.
• Charge device at room temperature. Avoid charging the device in warm or hot locations such as in the sun or in the car.

How does an electrolarynx work?
The EL device is placed against the neck tissues or the tubing is inserted into the mouth. The speaking button is pressed, producing vibrations through the throat, and the sounds are shaped with the user's mouth, tongue, and lips.

Are electrolarynx devices helpful even when planning on using esophageal or tracheoesophageal (TE) speech?
Yes. The EL is helpful to communicate immediately after surgery when the tissues are still healing. After speech therapy, an EL is helpful when talking in a crowd or amplifying speech due to sickness.

How is the electrolarynx used with an oral adapter?
The oral adapter included wraps over the top of the EL with an oral tube that's placed like a straw into the mouth while pressing the speak button.
