TheraHoney HD Wound Dressings is a unique primary dressing that is saturated with Manuka honey that has been highly filtered and tested. This ensures the highest possible efficiency in healing wounds and providing the optimal environment for healing. Containing 200% more honey than the TheraHoney Sheets they are able to last on the wound up to seven days before needing to be changed. However, if the honey colored dressing starts turning white before seven days, the dressing will need to be changed for optimal efficiency.
The TheraHoney HD Dressing contains high levels of sugar, which encourages an osmotic effect in the wound. The action pulls exudate and dead tissue to the surface, which is then pulled through the porous material into the secondary dressing, while still providing a moist and healing environment for the wound. The removal of dead cells also help to control odors. The honey also serves to help lower the pH of the wound.
TheraHoney HD Sheets come completely sterile to reduce the risk of infection during use. The dressing comes in a one by twelve inch rope for tunnel wounds, or a two by two inch square as well as a four by five inch rectangle to meet the needs of most wounds. However, the sheets can be stretched to increase the size of the pores or fully cover the wound. It can also be cut to fit if the wound is smaller than the sheet or rope require. Once the TheraHoney HD is applied, it is most effective when covered with an Optifoam Gente Border Adhesve Dressing or other highly absorbent dressing to aid in the removal of exudate and dead tissue.
