Cica Care Silicone Gel Sheets, manufactured by Smith & Nephew, are self-adhesive silicone gel sheets used in the management of hypertrophic and keloid scars. The soft, flexible sheet is designed to be placed over healed, closed skin and worn for extended periods as part of a scar care routine in home, clinic, or hospital settings.
Each Cica Care sheet measures 12 cm x 15 cm and can be cut to fit the size and shape of the scar. The sheet may be reused on the same individual when cleaned as directed. A single cut piece can remain in use for several weeks, which helps support long-term scar management with a limited number of sheets.
The combination of a silicone membrane and gel makes the sheet conformable while maintaining structure. One side is self-adhesive, so no additional tape is required for many flat areas of the body. The material is designed to be comfortable for day and night wear and can be used on scars from surgery, burns, accidents, and other healed injuries, including many contoured areas such as the face, earlobes, or sternum.

Contraindications and precautions
Cica Care should only be applied to intact, fully healed skin. It is not intended for use on open, infected, or actively inflamed wounds, and should not be placed over areas with acne or dermatologic conditions that disrupt skin integrity. Ointments, creams, and oils should not be used under the sheet, because additional products may interfere with adhesion or with the way the silicone surface functions.
In some cases, redness or rash may occur under or around the sheet. This is often associated with poor cleaning, prolonged wear without breaks, or application that is too tight. If irritation develops, wear time should be reduced to allow the skin to recover. If redness or rash persists, a healthcare professional should be consulted before continued use.
Application tips
For initial use, wear time is typically started at a shorter duration and then gradually increased to allow the skin to adjust. Many users begin with a few hours of wear on the first day, then add wear time in small increments over the next several days until a longer daily schedule is reached, according to the product instructions and clinical guidance.
The gel sheet should be cleaned regularly, such as twice daily, and more often in warm weather or during higher activity. To clean the sheet, it can be washed with a mild soap, rinsed thoroughly, and patted dry with a lint-free cloth before being reapplied to clean, dry skin. The scar area should also be gently cleansed to help reduce the risk of irritation.
On contoured body areas or over joints, some users and clinicians secure Cica Care with additional dressings. One common approach is to place the Cica Care sheet directly on the scar, cover it with a non-adherent dressing, and then hold both in place with a suitable adhesive dressing or tape. This can make removal easier for cleaning while helping the silicone sheet stay in position during movement.
