Silvrstat Antibacterial Wound Dressing Gel
Silvrstat Antibacterial Wound Dressing Gel

Description

Silvrstat Antibacterial Dressing is a water-based gel that is used to treat burns, lacerations, or other serious tissue damage. Using silver and other ingredients, Silverstat is applied to wounds and covered in order to prevent the growth of microorganisms. Silvrstat should be used by or with the guidance of a medical professional.

While Silvrstat paste is a liquid add-on, other foam dressings use silver for similar effect, such as the Mepilex Ag Foam Dressing pads.

Silvrstat Gel (2008431) Overview

Silverstat dressing is a gel containing 32 parts per million proprietary silver (purified water, nano-silver) that is used in treating a variety of wounds. Under proper use, Silvrstat is effective at helping skin and area affected by wounds remain clean and improve tissue health. The gel inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as:

  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Escherichia coli
  • Antibiotic-resistant strains
  • MRSA and VRE
  • Candida albicans fungi

When applying Silvrstat to a wound, it should be applied directly, in and on the surface area of the wound. It then just needs to be covered with a standard dressing, such as Tegaderm Film. This application should be removed and replaced about every 1-3 days, depending on severety of the wound.

Ingredients and Uses

Silvrstat contains Silver, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, and Propylene Glycol. The active ingredient and the one responsible for treating wounds is silver. The Nano-silver (at 0.01 micron) has no known or reasonably suspected adverse reactions associated with its use. Silverstat silver wound dressing can be used to treat the following:

  • First to Second Degree Burns
  • Stasis, Diabetic, or Pressure Ulcers
  • Lacerations and Abrasions
  • Skin Tears
  • Surgical Incision sites
  • Donor, Graft, or Device Insertion Sites

Using Silver to Treat Wounds

While there are different silver treatments available, in gels and sheets, silver as an ingredient has been found to be effective at eliminating bacteria and other microorganisms that can be problematic in open wounds. To be clear, silver is not used to speed up wound healing, it is a preventative measure against infection within wounds being treated.
