What is the difference between a trach with a TaperGuard cuff and an uncuffed tracheostomy tube?
The Taperguard cuff inflates to seal the airway tighter for positive-pressure ventilation to do the work of breathing. The cuff reduces the risk of aspiration to protect the lungs by reducing fluid leakage.
Can you ventilate a patient with an uncuffed trach tube?
Yes, the uncuffed tube still can provide mechanical ventilation; however, the airway pressure cannot be measured. The 15 mm hub enables ventilation with or without the inner cannula.
Can the Shiley Flexible Adult Tracheostomy Tube be sterilized and reused?
No. Only the reusable cannula can be cleaned and reinserted.
How long can the patient wear the tracheostomy tube?
The wear time is specified for 29 days of use.
