Description

QuikClot advanced clotting gauze with kaolin provides quick bleeding control when it's needed the most. According to QuikClot, hemorrhage is the major cause of preventable death, up to 40% of trauma-related deaths are caused because of uncontrolled bleeding. QuikClot 2-foot gauze pack comes with two z-fold strips of kaolin impregnated gauze, designed to promote and accelerate clotting. The special ingredient, kaolin, is a naturally-occurring non-allergenic mineral that aids in clotting by kickstarting the clotting process internally. QuickClot advanced gauze (Adventure Medical Kits 50200016) is clinically proven to stop hemorrhaging quickly and has shown to increase the chance of surviving traumatic bleeding by as much as 80%. This product is both lightweight and portable, making sure that it's convenient to have at all times. QuikClot gauze is also flexible and pliable to easily contour to best fit wounds. Should you ever need to use this product, be sure to have some Dynarex Triple Antibiotic Ointment to prevent infection. Also, since this product is meant to pack wounds to prevent bleeding, be sure to get some 3M Steri-Strip Skin Closure to help close and apply pressure to wounds until proper help can be sought.

How to Apply

Open the package and remove the gauze inside. Pack the gauze into the wound and use it to apply direct pressure onto the source of bleeding, do not simply cover the wound with the gauze. Excess gauze should be used to apply pressure to the wound. While applying, it's vital to pack a wound entirely with the gauze, prioritizing the source of bleeding. Next, continue to apply pressure to the wound for 3 minutes or until the bleeding stops. Be sure pressure is consistent the entire time it is in contact with the point of bleeding. After that, wrap and tie a bandage to the wound to maintain proper pressure and seek medical attention immediately. Make sure to also wrap the package of the gauze used in the temporary bandage to alert medical personnel that this gauze has been used to treat the wound.

First Aid Applications

QuikClot gauze is the recommended bleed-stop solution used by all 5 branches of the U.S. Military. This is because QuikClot is effective for use in field operations to stop bleeding caused by bullet wounds and lacerations. Primarily, simple bandages like McKesson cotton gauze rolls work well at treating minor injuries and lacerations. However, for more serious injuries, ones in which bleeding is a danger, QuickClot is the proper tool. This product is perfect for avid hikers or mountain guides who may encounter situations where injuries may occur. Additionally, forest rangers and emergency service responders may find this product useful in the event of bleeding-related medical emergencies. Hunters, as well, will be grateful to have this product on hand in case an accident occurs. This product can even be used in the emergency room to quickly stop bleeding related trauma. So, if your first aid kit doesn't have a way to stop serious bleeding, then this product is right for you.

Bleed-Stop Importance

According to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Critical Care in 2011, 40% of trauma-related deaths around the world are the result of blood loss. This makes bleeding the most common cause of preventable deaths due to trauma. According to this same study, no clear correlation has been established between transfusion requirements and patient mortality. This would suggest that the best way to save victims of hemorrhage is to prevent excessive blood loss before they approach any threshold where a transfusion would be necessary. Theoretically, if bleeding is stopped as soon as possible, odds of survival increases. This is supported by the fact that during trials with injured animals, faster bleed-stop resulted in an 80% survival rate as opposed to other slower bleed-stop methods. So, despite the benefits of blood transfusion and donating blood, the answer to saving the most lives affected by traumatic injury is to stop the bleeding as fast as possible.
