Bivona Flextend TTS Cuffed Pediatric Straight Neck Flange Tracheostomy Tubes
Bivona Flextend TTS Cuffed Pediatric Straight Neck Flange Tracheostomy Tubes

Description

Who Uses This Product? Bivona® FlexTend TTS Cuffed Pediatric Straight Neck Flange Tracheostomy Tubes are used by pediatric patients who require a tracheostomy for airway management or mechanical ventilation. The flexibility of its TTS cuff is ideal for patients who require an intermittent or temporary seal.

Why They Love It: The FlexTend trach tube has an extended-length proximal shaft that allows for movement without irritating the stoma. It is also versatile with its TTS cuff that inflates to properly seal off the trachea or deflates for speaking and to minimize trauma to the trachea.

Flextend TTS Cuffed Pediatric Trachestomy Tube Overview

The Portex Bivona Pediatric Tracheostomy Tube is made of soft and skin-friendly silicone that accommodates almost any pediatric tracheostomy patient who needs the cuff temporarily or intermittently. The FlexTend design reduces the risk of stoma irritation by keeping external device and ventilator connections away from the child’s neck and chin.

This trach tube stands out thanks to its cuff with a Tight-to-Shaft (TTS) design. The cuff expands to seal the trachea when required but has the ability to deflate and rest tight to the shaft of the tube, allowing the child to speak and reducing trauma to the trachea.

Smiths Medical offers smaller inside diameter (I.D.) options for pediatric patients, ranging from 2.5 to 5.5 millimeters. The most popular size is  sku number 67PFSS35.

Gentle Silicone With SuperSlick Coating

While plastic (polyvinyl chloride-PVC) tracheostomy tubes are the most common material for a disposable trach tube,  the Bivona tracheostomy tube is different because it is made of biocompatible silicone. The silicone design is hydrophobic, allowing for cleaning to get the most life out of each trach tube. The silicone is soft and hypoallergenic, making it safe for almost any tracheostomy patient to wear. The silicone covers a non-ferrous wire that allows the tube to easily conform to the patient’s trachea.

The silicone is covered in a specialized SuperSlick coating that makes insertion and removal easier. It is also designed to resist encrustation for easy suctioning to minimize friction when it's removed for cleaning.

What Is TTS?

Flextend Trach Tube with TTS (Tight-to-Shaft) inflates the cuff into a balloon to seal the trachea and ensure air and fluids do not leak out of the lungs. This enhances breathing in ventilated patients and protects against aspiration. The tube is also versatile and when deflated to the shape of an uncuffed tube, the tube rests TTS. This minimizes pressure points against the trachea and allows the patient to speak.

Sanitizes for Extended Life

The hydrophobic silicone hinders bacterial colonization and secretion buildup, making cleaning and sanitizing the tube both simple and easy. The silicone tubes may be sanitized up to five times, making them reusable and cost-effective.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How is the TTS cuff inflated?
A syringe of sterile saline is injected into the TTS cuff to inflate the balloon.

What is the best way to clean and sanitize the silicone trach tube?
Clean the tube with a mild detergent solution and water. Carefully scrub the tube and obturator with a soft-bristled brush. Place in a pan with boiling distilled water. Cover the pan, remove from heat, and cool the water before removing the contents.

How should the child bathe when wearing the trach tube?
Children can take baths if watched closely to prevent water from splashing into the tube or stoma. Suction the tube immediately.
