Who Uses This Product? This product is applied to S. aureus and MRSA-colonized patients by clinicians to decolonize nostrils and anterior nares.

The Profend Nasal Decolonization Swabsticks consist of a pack of four pre-saturated nasal swabs containing a 10% povidone-iodine antiseptic solution. This antiseptic swab is applied to the anterior nares and nostrils to protect patients against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, and other variations of bacteria that can lead to surgical site infections (SSIs) or healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs).

The Profend Nasal Swabs come in a pack of four; each pack is considered one treatment. For each treatment, two nasal swabs are inserted into both nostrils. Each of the four sticks is placed into the nostrils for 15 seconds each, resulting in a total treatment time of 60 seconds. This is ideal for saving valuable time without reducing the quality of treatment patients receive.

Each nasal swab has a unique snap-and-swab design that quickly cracks the small container open without creating a mess. This makes it easy to access the presaturated swab for quick treatment. The handle comes completely dry, minimizing the likelihood of a mess when treating patients. The presaturated cotton swab is smaller in size, making it more comfortable for different nostril sizes.

These nasal swabs are presaturated in 10% Povidone-Iodine to fight against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, and other microbes that can cause SSIs and HAIs. This antiseptic solution kills 99.7% of S. aureus within the first hour. After 12 hours, the solution continues to kill 99.9% of S. aureus.
