The Optifoam AG Non-Adhesive Silver Antimicrobial Wound Dressing combines the protective healing of a foam dressing with the antimicrobial power of silver. The Optifoam Dressing is foam based which gives it all the benefits of being absorbent while providing moisture to promote healing and conforming around the wound. It does all of this while still allowing the wound to breathe. However, since it is also infused with silver, it promotes a cleaner environment, fighting off bacteria with the antimicrobial barrier and continues to do so as bacteria continues to be introduced time and again.
The outer layer of the Optifoam AG Dressing is waterproof with a low friction surface. This means that the wound is protected no matter the environment it is exposed to, reducing the risk of infection and it doesn't affect the environment around it, either. It simply protects around the clock. Unlike other absorbent dressings, it comes equipped with Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) which adjusts to the level of fluids within the wound environment. This prevents it from drying out, while not becoming overly wet. Both environments slow the healing process.
As a non-adhesive dressing and being latex-free, it significantly reduces the chances of allergic reactions to the wound, making it suitable for any patients dealing with surgical wounds, donor sites, leg or foot ulcers, first- and second- degree burns and more. It provides a healing environment for each of these wounds so well that it is able to stay in place for up to seven days. However, this will also depend on the amount of discharge from the wound.
During this time it doesn't leave stains on skin or on dressings, leaving the user to continue life as normal as possible. It is important to note that this dressing should not be used to treat third-degree burns, those who have allergies to silver or lesions that have vasculitis.
