Probiotics and Prebiotics
Probiotics. These are known as being "good" bacteria for the body. These beneficial bacteria are found in breast milk as well as in the gastrointestinal tract and other parts of the body. But for infants struggling with food allergies or GI conditions, obtaining these probiotics can be challenging. That's why the Syneo Formula offers a specific strain of the bacteria Bifidobacterium breve. This probiotic is not derived from major food allergens and is cultured in a dairy-free environment. The dairy-free culturing process ensures through all stages of production that it will be safe for infants with CMA.
Prebiotics. Clinical evidence has shown that prebiotics are beneficial for stimulating the growth and activity of beneficial microorganisms within the gastrointestinal tract. With this formula, there is a blend of fiber (short chain-FOS) and inulin (long chain-FOS). The sc-FOS and lc-FOS are used to help feed the beneficial microorganisms that the GI tract needs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What makes this formula hypoallergenic?
The protein source in the formula is 100% free amino acids and there are no intact proteins or even small protein fragments (peptides) that can cause an allergic reaction.
What is an amino acid-based formula?
Amino acid-based formulas are made from the building blocks of protein, called amino acids. It does not contain any intact protein chains.
Can this be warmed up after it's been refrigerated?
Yes. However, it is recommended to do so carefully. Warming the formula at too high of a temperature (above 104 Fahrenheit or 40 Celsius) can lessen the benefits of the probiotic cultures. It is recommended to not use a microwave, due to the risk of hot spots and burns. Instead, use a bottle warmer or a warm water bath, or hold the bottle under warm, running water. Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature does not exceed 104 Fahrenheit.
What is the shelf life once the formula is opened?
After the seal has been opened, the manufacturer recommends that the formula be used two weeks after opening.
What to do if a baby forms mucus on their stool after taking this?
Mucus in the stool is not typical, so if this happens, alert the physician.
Can this baby food be given through a feeding tube?
Yes, it can be given through gastric feeding tubes.
Will a baby experience stool changes when transitioning to this product? If so, what kind of changes?
The research on this product suggests that there may be some initial changes in stool characteristics such as the color and consistency. Changes may be most noticeable during the early transitional period. In the first days/weeks of use, a baby may experience more gas or flatulence, which can lead to some temporary discomfort or fussiness. Stools may be softer, more like breastfed infants, during the transition period.
The first stools can also be green or dark in color. Many parents describe the color as hunter green (but if a stool is black, health practitioners should be alerted immediately. This could be a sign of blood in the stool). Green is completely normal and happens because of the formula's special composition and the way it's digested and absorbed in the body. For most babies, the green color may last for the first few days.
