MedVance Bordered Hydrocolloid Dressing, by Medway, consists of a semipermeable polyurethane film coated with carboxy-methylcellulose. A visual change indicator makes dressing-change decisions easier. Bordered dressings do not need a compression bandage and manage more exudate than non-bordered dressings and are ideal for venous leg ulcers, stage I and stage II pressure ulcers, superficial burns, superficial partial wounds, thickness burns, donor sites, postoperative wounds, skin abrasions, and to re-hydrate necrotic tissue to aid in autolytic debridement. Used as a primary dressing or a secondary dressing to secure a primary dressing, a cohesive gel is produced when the hydrocolloid dressing is in contact with wound exudate to provide a moist, healing wound environment. Atypical shapes are for wounds on the heel and sacrum. The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel guidelines recommend the usage of hydrocolloids for the management of pressure ulcers.
