Description

Medline Marathon Liquid Skin Protectant is a flexible, long-lasting skin barrier developed for vulnerable periwound skin and peristomal skin. Friction and shearing are contributing forces to pressure ulcers as it tears fragile skin developing a painful wound. The Marathon Cyanoacrylate no-sting formula effectively seals the skin to protect it from friction and moisture, another factor that prolongs wound healing. Marathon skin barrier fends off maceration and skin breakdown from prolonged moisture exposure. This can be caused by urine and feces, due to incontinence, as well as wound exudate, sweat, or other body fluids which compromise the epidermis and make it difficult for the wound to heal.

Marathon Skin Protectant looks like pen so it's easy to hold. It's directly applied to the area, adding a flexible and breathable layer that spreads evenly and it also dries quickly. It's a no sting formula making it an excellent choice to use on various skin conditions including:

Try Marathon Liquid Skin Protectant purchasing a single 0.5-gram applicator or choose the box of 5 or box of 10. Medline also manufactures other products including Aloetouch Protect pre-moistened wipes using dimethicone for a breathable skin sealant.

  • Formula Defends Damaged Skin From Moisture

What Does MedLine Marathon Liquid Skin Protectant Do?

After drying, it forms a barrier that is up to five times thicker than other barrier products. Because of the way it works, there are virtually no cracks or gaps. The liquid coats the skin and keeps liquids and contaminants out. It guards against skin-stripping, friction, maceration, tears, and moisture loss as well.

The Marathon Liquid Barrier protects against the damaging effects of urine and stool, leaks from stomas, and wound exudate.

You can use it on healthy skin to guard against damage. You can also use it on fragile or compromised skin to help in the recovery process.

How MedLine Skin Protectant With Applicator Works

Since the product goes on as a liquid, it helps fill in gaps and uneven areas of the skin, creating a smoother surface for adhering devices. It helps with removal as well, because it helps the skin maintain its integrity.

Because it dries, Marathon does not wear or rub off quickly, requiring less reapplication and fewer adjustments of equipment.

How MedLine Marathon Skin Protectant Compares to Other Solutions

  • Stacking Up Against Solvent-Based Alternatives
    • These products are a mixture of the film-forming elements and a fast-drying carrier - typically alcohol. Alcohol stings when applied to sensitive tissues. 'No Sting' options often use water.
    • Marathon does not use a carrier. Instead, it consists of a monomer - a repeating structure - which delivers 100% film-producing elements.
    • This structure has an affinity for water and quickly bonds with anything with moisture in it - such as skin. As the protectant bonds with the epidermis, it creates a thick layer of film.
    • When solvent-based protectants dry, they leave behind a thin layer filled with cracks and gaps. Sometimes a second layer has to be applied.
  • Marathon Protectant and Barrier Creams, Pastes, and Ointments
    • Creams, pastes, and ointments are petroleum-based products that can leave a residue. They often wear thin rapidly and can need constant reapplication. These barriers are not breathable, and they can increase the risk of developing candidiasis.
    • Marathon creates a thick, single layer without leaving a greasy or oily feeling. The barrier is flexible, durable, breathable, and lasts for many hours.

How To Apply the Marathon Liquid Protectant

  1. Prepare the area by cleaning the skin and removing any moisture.
  2. Point the applicator tip upward.
  3. Squeeze the middle of the applicator until the sealed cartridge breaks (the liquid will push up toward the tip).
  4. Rotate until the applicator sponge is the lowest point.
  5. Press into the sides until the sponge fills (it will turn purple).
  6. Brush the liquid onto the desired area with even strokes.

Changing Frequency

A layer of protectant film usually lasts about three days. The protectant contains a purple dye to aid you in applying the product. The product sloughs off when skin cells shed. When spots and gaps appear inside of the purpled area, it is time to apply more of the product.
