The opposite side of the electrode is covered in a hydrogel that conducts the electricity from the TENS unit. The adhesive hydrogel is gentle on skin and reduces irritation on skin. This is especially helpful with removal and replacement of the electrode.
On the Kendall Round KittyCat Cloth Electrode (Cardinal Health 31424735) the kitten design is printed onto a soft and flexible material that contours with the shape of the patient. The Kendall Neonatal KittyCat Electrode (Cardinal Health EP00777) is especially helpful with treatment for infant apnea. Both styles of electrode have color coded safety sockets in order to facilitate the designation of the wires.
