Overview
The ICU Medical Extension Set with standard or optional needleless connections is an extension set primarily used when a patient has an IV line inserted and needs to take additional or continued medication. The extension set remains inserted in the arm and is used to connect different IV connections to the same IV line. The extension is the part that stays in the patient to reduce the need for constant re-sticks. Instead of a new needle connection, change out the port connection with the new one.
Compatible with most IV lines (except those that are specially designed), the ICU Medical Mini Bore Extension Set (B1118) and Small Bore (B1048, B3312) offers two types of connections: a small and a miniature connection for lines with a lower or slower flow. To control or stop the flow of medication, optional clamps are added along with the extension set. A slide and removable clamp are optional. To remove the risk of harmful plastic material, these products are made DEHP-free so that the extension IV set is safe for use.
