Geri Chair is the short term for geriatric chairs and are also known as clinical recliners. Designed for the elderly and recovering patients, these chairs assist patients and their caregivers in hospitals, rehab facilities, short-term care centers, and homecare. They offer patients comfortable seating for long durations. They are easy to navigate from room-to-room and have locking wheels to stay in place. Usually a tray attaches to accommodate eating or activities. One of the first geri chairs was a modified wheelchair with a raised back and a tray with raised edges to help keep the patient in place and to facilitate activities. Used in a VA facility, this chair offered patients more security, "promotes better digestion, improved morale, self-help, and an earlier convalescence."1
