Description

Product Overview

DermaRite Petrolatum Gauze Dressing is available in a variety of sizes to best suit your wound care needs. The non-adherent cotton gauze dressing is impregnated with white petrolatum to aid in healing by creating a moist wound environment. Petrolatum gauze is not absorbent; rather it's designed to be a primary dressing and protect the wound with moisture to support healing. It's recommended to use an absorbent wound dressing when needing to wick away wound exudate for low exuding wounds. The petrolatum dressing directly conforms to the wound bed and therefore is packaged sterile to not contaminate the wound which supports faster healing. DermaRite Impregnated Petrolatum Gauze Dressing is latex-free and is made of hypoallergenic cotton. It clings nicely to the body wound contour making it an ideal dressing for low to non-exuding wounds such as donor sites, skin grafts, burns, abrasions, and lacerations. The petrolatum gauze is available in 1 and 3-inch widths and a selection of lengths from 8 to 36 inches to customize the gauze to the wound site. Another great product is DermaRite Border Gauze Dressing by DermaRite. This dressing features an adhesive border to ensure it stays in place while over the wound.

How Petrolatum Dressings Work

Petrolatum-impregnated gauze was created to solve the issues of desiccation and trauma from wound dressing removal. During wound healing, the skin surface breaks down and leads to a buildup of necrotic cells that invite bacteria to form over the wound. Petrolatum gauze has a limited pore size that helps prevent rapid evaporation from the wound and prevents absorption by the secondary dressing of ointments and healing creams. This dressing also provides a hydrophilic contact layer that doesn't adhere. This dressing is a form-fitting dressing that is great for various body parts and reduces trauma from dressing removal.
