The sponge is also ideal as a secondary wound dressing due to its excellent absorbency. It's 4-ply and made with a blend of rayon and polyester that creates fast wicking properties to properly cleanse a wound or soak up wound exudate. As a wound dressing, exudate management is important to reduce the risk of maceration and disruption to granulation tissue formed as the wound begins to heal.
