Who Uses This Product? Anybody with a tracheostomy, IV catheter, surgical drain, or other draining site that requires an absorbent, fast wicking, sterile sponge.

Excilon AMD Sponges are highly absorbent and fast-wicking drain sponges impregnated with 0.2% PHMB. Polyhexamethylene biguanide, or PHMB, is a safe, broad-spectrum antimicrobial that is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, including MRSA and VRE. This sponge is ideal for absorbing drainage in tracheostomies and other insertion sites.

Each drain sponge is impregnated with PHMB (polyhexamethylene biguanide), which is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial with proven efficacy against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. PHMB is also effective against fungi, yeast, and even antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria such as MRSA and VRE. There are no known PHMB-resistant bacteria.
