As a hydrocolloid dressing exudate is absorbed turning its moisture absorbing particles into viscous protective gel that won't stick to wound bed. This process promotes faster healing as it balances moisture needed for optimal healing conditions. The polyurethane top film also assists with balancing moisture with its semi-permeable layer that releases vapor as exudate and bacteria are absorbed. It's also vital in preventing outside contaminants from entering the wound to increase its wearing time. Because it's transparent, there is always view of the wound so it can be monitored without having to peel off the dressing. This minimizes exposure and reduces the number of dressings needed.
