How Do You Use a Braun PRO 6000 ThermoScan Thermometer?

Operation Basics

1. Hold the bottom of the thermometer and pivot it up and out of its holder. The device will turn on when released.
2. Push the probe tip into the cradle and then pull it out to attach a new probe cover.
3. The thermometer will beep and the temperature ring will turn green. Three lines will show on the LCD screen. The thermometer is now ready for use.
4. Gently, but snugly, place the ear probe into the ear canal. To ensure accurate temperature results, point the probe in the direction of the patient's opposite temple.
5. Push (do not hold) the measurement button once.
6. The light will turn and stay green and a long beep will sound. The patient's temperature will appear on the LCD screen and can now be read and recorded.
7. Remove the thermometer from the patient's ear. Always change out the probe between device uses to ensure accurate measurements.

How to Clean and Sanitize this Item

To clean the probe

• Gather a cloth or a Cotton Swab Lightly moisten the cotton swab with rubbing alcohol, such as this McKesson Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol.
• Wipe the probe lens window (on the tip of the probe) off gently. Do not press too hard or the sensor may be damaged.
• Point the probe toward the ground. Wipe down the rest of the ear probe gently and thoroughly.
• Let the probe dry for five minutes or longer before using the thermometer again. Ensure that the device is completely clean before using it again.

To clean the body and accessories

• Place a new probe cover on the probe to protect it while cleaning the body.
• Gather an approved cleaning wipe or a damp (not soaked) cloth.
• Wipe down the thermometer, tether, and cradle while the thermometer is detached from the cradle.

How to Calibrate the Thermometer

This item comes calibrated and when used properly should not need to be calibrated. However, users should check it whenever its accuracy is in question and once a year. ThermoScan Pro 6000 calibration can be accomplished with the purchase of a 9600 Plus Calibration Tester. Instructions for calibration come with the 9600 (REF 01802-110).

Contraindications

Do not use this item if the patient presents the following conditions:

• External ear canal chronic or acute inflammatory conditions
• External ear canal drainage or blood
• High presence of ear wax and blockage of the ear canal (this will likely result in an inaccurately low temperature reading)
• The patient is a pre-term or small-for-gestational age babies

• If the patient has used prescription ear drops, take their temperature from their other ear.
• This thermometer may not work accurately for patients with facial deformities.
