BD PosiFlush pre-filled saline syringes offer multiple solutions to meet your flushing needs. BD syringes are designed to help prevent leaks that could cause pre-filled solutions to come into contact with nonsterile areas of the syringe. They also reduce the risk of solution contamination before flushes and prevent blood reflux, ensuring patients remain safe from contamination by providing a sterile fluid pathway. Each BD syringe is made with the same diameter, as opposed to other brands. This helps reduce the PSI of outputs helping to protect catheters from damage. Preserving catheters helps with operating costs and also prevents unnecessary patient pain and patient dissatisfaction. Additionally, maintaining IV catheter integrity reduces care time, venous depletion, and other conditions caused by catheter failure. BD PosiFlush syringes come in 10mL (BD 306546), 5mL (BD 306545), and 3mL (BD 306544) in normal saline and 10mL sterile (BD 306553). These syringes follow ISMP labeling guidelines to help support efforts to reduce the risk of medication errors. These products work with gravity catheter tube sets or other standard catheter sets that can accept needleless syringes. Also, to provide the best patient experience, clean patient skin with BD Alcohol Swabs prior to administering an IV catheter.
Importance of Regularly Flushing Catheters
Flushing catheters helps prevent infection and keeps the catheter in good working order. Neglecting to do this could lead to ineffective IV treatments and other possible complications. Saline flushes should be administered every four hours when the catheter is not in use. Using a flush, be sure to sterilize the administration cap of the catheter with an alcohol wipe. Be sure to wear some kind of protective glove-like Halyard nitrile exam gloves before administering. Regularly doing this will help prevent the need to have catheters replaced, reducing unnecessary discomfort while undergoing medical treatments.
