Statlock Retainer Devices Overview
Statlock Foley Stabilization Devices, manufactured by Bard, are designed to secure Foley catheters in place without a leg strap. These Catheter Holders are an alternative to strapping a catheter holder on the leg because of the unique anchor pad design. The StatLock Latex-free anchor pad is easy to secure to the skin, preventing slipping and dislodgement. These anchor pads are air-permeable to reduce skin irritation.
The StatLock retainer device attaches to the anchor pads, securing the catheter into place. The retainer device holds the catheter using transparent gull wings. The StatLock Stabilization Device is simple to set up by lifting the wings, placing the catheter inside, and then closing the wings over the catheter. The Bard StatLock Foley Catheter Stabilization Device can turn on its axis 360 degrees. This is significant because the extra movement can help to prevent accidental pulling or removal of catheters. The StatLock Catheter Holder fits most silicone or latex Foley catheters.
Factors in Choosing the Correct Device
- Sizing Variations: Latex and silicone catheters often fall into different French (Fr) size ranges that the stabilization retainer must accommodate. StatLock devices for latex catheters are designed for sizes 8–22 Fr, while devices for silicone catheters accommodate a larger range, up to 24 Fr or 26 Fr.
- Material Variations: The standard Tricot features a durable design with a more breathable fabric, while the foam design tends to conform better to body movements and reduces moisture accumulation against skin with perspiration holes.
- Retainer Engineering: The "lock-tight" plastic clip is engineered to match the physical characteristics of the specific catheter material This specialized design prevents "pistoning" (the sliding of the tube in and out of the body) and minimizes movement that can lead to tissue damage or bacterial biofilm disruption.
- Anchor Pad Customization: The foam models for latex (FOL0101) and silicone (FOL0100) are designed with perspiration holes to reduce moisture accumulation and skin irritation specifically for those catheter types.
- Clinical Effectiveness: Using the correct device and ensuring a proper "snug fit" is essential for the StatLock to effectively reduce symptomatic urinary tract infections and prevent unplanned catheter removals.
Compatibility
- FOL0100: Silicone catheter tubing 8 to 26 French
- FOL0101: Latex catheter tubing 8 to 22 French
- FOL0102: Silicone catheter tubing 8 to 26 French

Securement Instructions
- Press: Lay the foley catheter into Statlock retainer and close the lid. Press the grip markers on the clip's far edge rather than the middle to prevent pinching the catheter.
- Prep: Identify securement site on front of thigh. Adjust placement to provide 1 inch of slack for catheter tubing.
- Place: Wipe the securement site and the area around it with alcohol pads and allow to dry. Wipe same area with skin protectant pads and let dry until skin is smooth to the touch.
- Peel: Carefully peel away the backing from the Statlock device one side at a time. Place one side at a time on the prepared skin.
