The 3M Attest Biological Indicator Incubator is a system that provides convenient steam sterilization cycle monitoring. This self-contained biological indicator has the ability to reduce the possibility of sample contamination. The 3M Attest Incubator (3M 116) minimizes false positives and ensures more accurate results. It automatically crushes vials to release medium, which allows it to be easier and safer than other standard systems.
The 3M Incubator has a 14-vial capacity, which makes it ideal for large and small offices. It features a translucent cover for easy observation of color change. It has a dry-block design that is set to the proper incubation temperature to provide consistent and accurate results. The Attest Steam Incubator system is color-coded (blue & brown) for simple use and quick reference. This device has a readout that is available in 24-48 hours for fast results.
How to Use the 3M Attest Biological Indicator Incubator
- Plug your unit into an outlet.
- Let the unit sit for 30 minutes to reach operational temperature (you may wish to keep the unit on to avoid warm-up time).
- Once the incubation period finishes, don safety gear (gloves and glasses).
- Open the unit door.
- Wait at least five-minutes.
- Retrieve the Attest biological indicator.
- If the indicator does not reside within heat absorbing material, let it cool another 10 minutes before crushing.
- If the indicator is inside of heat absorbing material, open the material and let stand for five minutes before removing the indicator.
- Let it stand an additional 10 minutes and then crush.
- Place the indicator into the unit's heating block at an approximately 45-degree angle, with the cap extending above the block.
- Press the indicator back to crush the phial to activate.
- Press the indicator down into the heating block.
- Make sure that the cap stays above the block.

Minimizing the Chances of Using a Batch from a Failed Cycle
- Check to see if the color is the same on the outside tag of the incubator and cap of the indicator.
- Use a positive control indicator each day a batch is incubated.
The Indicator Vial Contains a Glass Phial
- Squeezing or too much handling of the unit before it cools might cause the phial to break.
- Wear protective gear when taking the indicator from the unit.
- Use safety goggles while crushing.
- Hold the unit by its cap during crushing.
- Do not crush the glass with fingers.
