Cough Assist Devices are used to help clear the lungs and airways of secretions. Cough Assist Devices from Respironics, Emerson, and Cardinal Health are used to help with illnesses like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, and Cystic Fibrosis. Cough Assist Machines serve as a Mechanical Insufflator-Exsufflator or Cofflator to safely and effectively clears retained bronchopulmonary secretions. By applying a positive pressure to the airway followed by a rapid shift to negative pressure a expiratory flow from the lungs simulates a cough to void the secretions.
