The cath is inserted by a medical professional into a vein in the arm and threaded into a large vein to the heart. It remains there until treatment is no longer needed. The device has a valve that controls the flow of liquids, negating the need for clamps.

Is a PowerPICC not suitable for anyone?
It is not recommended that the PowerPICC be used on children under 2 months of age. It is also contraindicated for patients with known allergies to chlorhexidine gluconate or isopropyl alcohol.

Can the catheter be clamped?
If the cath or connector is damaged, a clamp may be used. The manufacturer recommends that smooth-edged clamps be used.
