Description

Cardinal Health Push Button Canes provide simple but effective support for those who've lost strength in one of their legs due to injury, age, or just to manage pain while walking. There are various reasons for what can cause these lower body problems and all of them should be diagnosed by a physician in case there is a serious underlying problem. However, many times, a cane is the simple answer a doctor will prescribe. Canes are necessary to prevent muscle imbalance and falls, both of which can cause other injuries. Considering, according to the National Council on Aging, the average cost of a hospitalization for a fall is $35,000, having some kind of fall prevention like a Grab Bar or a cane is well worth the investment.

A Cardinal Offset Push-Button Cane (Cardinal Health CNE0014) or J-Hook Push Button Aluminum Cane (Cardinal Health CNE0012) has a 250-pound capacity and is right for those who've recently experienced a decrease in walking strength, drop foot, or have experienced any kind of difficulty in walking recently. While you should consult your doctor for any of these changes, a cane can be your first option before needing a product like a walker, wheelchair, or mobility scooter. These canes are durable, made from aluminum, and can serve you well. Don't forget to also check out our cane accessories with everything from extra-support tips, ice grips, and holders.

Using a Cane Properly

Proper cane walking is crucial to overall support and comfort while walking. When using a cane, hold it in the hand that is on the opposite side of the affected leg. This might seem strange, but this will give your leg more support to prevent falls and matches the natural sway that your arms have in a walking gate. While walking, the cane should also match the position of your leg (just walk naturally, don't think about it too much). When holding a cane, your arm should be slightly bent at a 15-degree angle or what is described as comfortably bent. To walk up steps with a cane, start by placing your cane on the lower step then the unaffected leg on the upper step, then the affected leg. To go down stairs with a cane, place the cane on the lower step, then the affected leg, then the unaffected leg. In both cases, use a railing if available.
