Description
What Is the Masimo Rad-57 Fingertip Pulse Oximeter?
What Readings Does This Device Provide?
This product measures the following:
- Carboxyhemoglobin (SpCO)
- Methemoglobin (SpMet)
- Oxygen Content (SpOC)
- Oxygen Saturation (SpO2)
- Perfusion Index (PI)
- Pleth Variability Index (PVi)
- Pulse Rate (PR)
- Total Hemoglobin (SpHb)
2 readings. It helps give more accurate readings despite low perfusion levels and patient motion. Readers can find more information here.
What is Masimo rainbow technology?
'Rainbow' technology is an upgradable 'SET' noninvasive monitoring platform by Masimo. This technology includes extra parameter measurements. It is a non-invasive and accurate way to measure patient carboxyhemoglobin (SpCO), total hemoglobin (SpHb), PVI, oxygen content (SpCO), and methemoglobin (SpMet) continuously. It may help provide quicker diagnoses and promote faster treatment initiation. More information is available here.
What are the two readings on a pulse oximeter?
The two main readings on these devices indicate blood oxygen concentration levels and pulse rate.
What is a normal SpCO (carbon monoxide blood concentration) reading?
Normal Rad-57 CO-readings vary depending on age. Levels outside of these ranges may not indicate a problem. Patients should speak to their healthcare provider to find out what these measurements mean for them as individuals. Newborn levels are typically greater than 12%. Non-smoker adult levels are typically less than 2.3%. Those with hemolytic anemia tend to have levels between 4%. Adult smokers tend to range between 2.1% and 4.2%, while heavy smokers (more than two packs a day) tend to range between 8% and 9%.
What is a PI (perfusion index) measurement on a pulse oximeter?
A PI measures pulse strength. Preliminary data implies that low PI values may be a sign of ill health in neonatal patients.
