Description

Fourflex Overview

The FourFlex Bandage System is a super absorbent high-compression bandage system for the treatment of venous disease, leg ulcers, and edema. The kit comes with four, separate bandages each uniquely designed to provide comfortable compression and reduce swelling. Each layer has a unique job that facilitates enhanced Wound Careand healing. The innermost dressing creates protective padding to bones, joints, and wounds. This layer's thickness also allows it to absorb high levels of wound exudate. The second layer is an elastic, conforming secondary Wound Dressing. The next layer is a compression bandage. It has a low-profile design so the layered bandages don't become too bulky. The final layer is a cohesive bandage that holds the underlying layers in place. Also included with the kit are several adhesive Medi-Strips and a visual guide.

Fourflex multi-layer bandages are made out of a soft, comfortable, latex-free material and each layer is easy to apply. Conveniently, this item can be worn for up to seven days (depending on the amount of wound exudate and how edema reduction is progressing) before it must be changed out.

What Are the Advantages of Compression Therapy?

Controlled pressure keeps surface vein's diameters small to push blood back into the heart and the rest of the body. In short, it increases and improves blood circulation throughout the body. Improved circulation, in turn, helps heal existing ulcers and prevent new ones from forming. Compression Therapy with Fourflex wound care bandages also decreases inflammation, relieves pain, alleviates edema, and improves lymphatic function.

How to Use the Fourflex System

Bandage System Instructions

    In Preparation:

  1. Perform a wound assessment before application.
  2. Clean the wound with a wound cleansing spray, such as Medline's Skintegrity Wound Cleanser Spray.
  3. Apply a primary contact wound dressing layer of choice, such as the Versatel Primary Wound Dressing. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Use a foaming cleanser to clean the leg where skin is in tact.
  5. Apply a silicon-based remedy moisture barrier from above the toes to below the knee and up to the peri-wound margin to moisturize and protect the skin from wound exudate to prevent further breakdown. Medline recommends using Remedy Dimethicone Skin Protectant Moisture Barrier.
  6. Measure the ankle with flexible measuring tape. If the ankle measures less than 18 cm, build the ankle up with the first layer of bandages.

Fourflex Compression Bandage Application:

  1. Apply the first padding layer with a 50% overlap and increase the ankle circumference if necessary.
  2. Have the patient flex their foot and wrap the bandage around their foot.
  3. Wrap the bandage around their ankle, over their heal, and then in a spiral up the leg. Finish below the knee.
  4. The second conforming layer will smooth down the first layer. It should also be applied with a 50% overlap.
  5. Follow the same instructions for the first layer, but leave a small amount of the first layer exposed.
  6. Use an adhesive strip to secure this second layer.
  7. The third compression layer should be applied with a 50% overlap and at a 50% stretch with a figure 8 wrap.
  8. Again have the patient flex their foot and wrap the dressing around their foot, ankle, and heal.
  9. Apply the rest of the bandage up the leg in a figure 8 or criss-cross pattern instead of a spiral.
  10. Cut off any excess bandage and apply an adhesive strip.
  11. The fourth adhesive compression layer should also be applied with a 50% overlap and at a 50% stretch.
  12. Again have the patient flex their foot, heal, and ankle and spiral up the leg.
  13. Cut off excess bandage.
  14. Gently press the dressing to the skin to ensure proper adhesion.
  15. Change out bandages within a seven day period depending on wound exudate and edema progress.
