Attest Biological Indicator For Steam Sterilization - 3M 1262
Attest Biological Indicator For Steam Sterilization - 3M 1262

Description

Who Uses This Product? Hospital and laboratory staff handling sterile processing.

Why Give It a Try? The Attest Biological Indicator provides a defined resistance to the sterilization process. It's a trusted product by 3M to ensure critical sterilization conditions have been met.

Overview

The 3M Attest Biological Indicator for Steam Sterilization provides a visual marker to verify the steam sterilization process meets time and temperature safety guidelines. The 3M biological indicators (BI) contain viable Geobacillus stearothermophilus spore, the most heat-resistant organism that's difficult to eradicate. When it's killed in the autoclave sterilization process, it will provide a passing test result within 48 hours. This provides quality control for medical instruments or implantable devices that must be sterilized to prevent infection and cross-contamination.

A steam autoclave process requires the compatible Attest 1262 steam biological indicator. The Attest Biological Indicator ensures sterility, as technical errors or equipment malfunctions can occur.

How the Biological Indicator Works

After the sterilization, the biological indicator vial is crushed to join the growth media. It is incubated for 48 hours to interpret a color-coded test result. The Attest BI indicator label changes from rose to a brown color when sterilization standards are passed. If the test fails, the label turns yellow notifying that there are surviving spores present.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How should biological indicators be disposed of?
Used BIs should be properly disposed of in the lab's biological waste for autoclaving.

How often should a biological indicator be used in an autoclave sterilizer?
A BI spore test vial should be added with each sterilizer load.

What is the difference between a biological indicator and a chemical indicator?
A BI ensures the autoclave is completely saturated and microrganisms are killed in the sterilization process. A CI ensures that steam completely covers the entire load.
