Details

Acapella Choice Vibratory PEP Device from Portex is a Respiratory Breathing Therapy device that flutters to break up mucus and promotes respiratory secretions. The Acapella Choice Vibratory PEP Therapy Valve can be used with the respiratory patient in any position relative to gravity, including sitting down, standing or reclined. The Acapella Choice valve helps to open airways in patients with lung disease who have secretory problems such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Cystic Fibrosis, or Asthma. This major advantage of this product over other Portex valves is that it disassembles for cleaning.

In addition, this Mucus Clearance Device has an adjustable frequency and flow resistance settings. Treatment times for patients can be performed in less than half the time of standard chest physiotherapy sessions, too. When patients use the Choice, they do not have to remove the device from their mouth for inhalation. It features a one-way inspiratory valve that allows this to be possible.

Featuring a distal 22mm OD, you can fit a nebulizer via a tee adapter.

Product Questions

I receive one in the hospital and it is a bit beat-up. Is a prescription required for a new one?
I have been diagnosed with moderate bronchiectasis. Do not have a strong productive cough. Would the Acapella Choice be effective for me. I am a small frame, light weight 81 year old female. Would washing it once daily be sufficient for a twice daily use?

Quirky
arrived in good shape. But after a week or two the unit does not operate properly; the flutter effect is sporadic at best.
the previous unit i bought here was even worse. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I disassemble unit and wash in hot soapy water. Any thoughts?

FULFILLS ITS PURPOSE
I would strongly recommend this product over the other Acapella valves. You can adjust the Choice valve to your ability to exhale and produce the flutter vibration that helps bring the phlegm up so it can be expelled. I was pleased with the speed in which my order arrived. My brother who suffers from asthma was visiting and (because you can clean the Choice) he tried it. He was amazed at how it helped clear his bronchi of sputum. He got on the phone and ordered one for himself. I'm not saying this is a miracle product, but I am saying that it has helped me clear my airways in a manner I cannot do without this device. It would have been appreciated if there had been instructions that included more than a description of the parts. To find out how to efficiently use the Acapella Choice, go to You Tube. There are several very good videos you can watch to make up for the missing instructions. I am still not sure which setting takes the least amount of exhaled air to work and which setting takes the most. During the 15 minutes I use the Choice, I start on 5 and move to 1. Is that because I have more exhaled air when I start; or is it because my lungs have been cleared of some phlegm and I actually have more exhaled air and can operate the Choice on setting #1...or am I tiring and I don't have enough exhaled air to operate on setting 5 thru 2...so, I end at 1? Some days, I start at level 3 and stay there throughout the exercise. Whatever the setting, the results are worth the effort! I like the fact that I can attach my nebulizer to the Choice and accomplish both exercise and medication all at the same time. The Choice is worth the chance you take when you purchase an item with which you are not familiar. Good luck to all!

Helps my COPD!
Using this 2 or 3 times per day helps loosen the phlegm from my lungs. Clearing the phlegm makes my breathing much easier & my morning walks far more enjoyable. Excellent product & easily cleaned (as opposed to other products of this type).

It's All Good
I received the Acapella Choice in a sealed, sterile bag, well-wrapped and shipped under the free shipping offer. It arrived in under a week from across the country.

Acapella Unit
The acapella is a requirement for me and works fine most of the time. I have received a couple that the plastic movable part does not work just right but I have not had trouble getting them replaced. I have had some confusion over the cleaning. It says that you can boil them but in my experience that ruins the interior fluttering valve, so I soak that part in alcohol and boil the rest. The rest develops a dusty looking film after so much boiling but then you aren't supposed to use them more than 6 months.
