Intermittent Catheters are used for patients who require a catheter for urinary fluid removal. These catheters are inserted internally into the body to drain urine from the bladder into a Urine Leg Bag or Bedside Drainage Bag. Vitality Medical's intermittent catheters are from the top manufacturers in Catheter Supplies: Bard, CardinalHealth, Coloplast, Dover, Hollister, Kendall, Mentor and Rusch. The most common Intermittent Catheter tip options include the Coude Catheter, Straight Catheter, Robinson Catheter, and Foley Catheter. A brief summary of each Intermittent Catheter is provided below:

Intermittent Catheter Options

  • Straight Catheter is a flexible catheter with a straight tip that is rounded and has an opening on the side of the catheter tube.
  • Coude Catheter is a flexible catheter with a bend or elbow curvature to facilitate navigation of the uretha in men. Coude Catheters are also used for women with urethral blockage or narrowing. The coude catheter is often used when a straight catheter is unsuitable.
  • Robinson Catheter is a straight tipped catheter with two to six holes for increased urine drainage. Robinson Catheters are used for both male and female patients. This catheter is particularly useful for patients who have blood clots that may obstruct a catheter opening.
  • Foley Catheter is a specially tipped catheter with a balloon device. The balloon tip of the catheter is enlarged to fix or keep the catheter in position within the bladder. A 3-way Foley Catheter has an additional inlet used for irrigation.
